Powergreen’s KOPERNIK Internship: Shaping Future Renewable Energy Engineers
Powergreen’s KOPERNIK program mentors engineering students in Qatar, equipping them with hands-on experience in renewable energy solutions.
Empowering Future Engineers Through Solar Energy
Powergreen marks the third year of KOPERNIK, its Renewable Energy Internship Program launched in 2014 to mentor electrical engineering students in Qatar. This year, two students from Qatar University embark on the 8-week training, gaining hands-on experience in sustainable energy engineering.
The internship focuses on solar energy applications, introducing participants to various clean energy technologies through mini-projects and structured theoretical training.
A Growing Platform for Learning and Innovation
Since its launch, KOPERNIK has welcomed students from Qatar University, College of the North Atlantic, and Texas A&M University. In 2016, the program expanded further by introducing new learning areas and increasing intern participation in real-world project implementations.
By providing practical exposure, Powergreen ensures interns develop the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to pursue careers in the renewable energy sector.
Success Stories from KOPERNIK Graduates
The impact of KOPERNIK extends beyond the internship. Several alumni have leveraged their experiences to advance in their careers.
Eng. Rehab, a participant from the first KOPERNIK batch, described the program as a turning point in her career.
“The internship opportunity I had with KOPERNIK was a great chance for learning and professional development. I consider myself very lucky to have been part of it. I also appreciate meeting so many inspiring professionals who guided me through this journey.”
After completing her training, Rehab returned to Powergreen for further development. She later secured a position with a major corporation in Qatar, where she continues to thrive.
From Internship to Global Impact
KOPERNIK has also enabled its alumni to contribute to global sustainability initiatives.
ElSherif, a 2015 graduate of the program, went on to join Engineers Without Borders. His training at Powergreen helped him participate in a humanitarian project, where he contributed to the design of a solar PV system for a remote village in Nicaragua. The system is set to be deployed early next year.
ElSherif continues to collaborate with his Powergreen mentors to perfect the system design before its implementation. His journey highlights how the KOPERNIK experience transcends borders, empowering young engineers to make a lasting difference.
Shaping the Next Generation of Renewable Energy Experts
Through KOPERNIK, Powergreen remains committed to nurturing future engineers, equipping them with the skills and experience needed for sustainable energy solutions. As the program evolves, it continues to open doors for young professionals eager to shape the future of clean energy.
